Archive for January, 2011

It’s tough to be from Cleveland this time of year: weather, weather, and the Steelers in the NFL Divisional Playoffs.

And I was thinking about the Playoffs when I came across some stories related to the current labor dispute between the NFL and the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA). Turns out that this week the NFLPA is asking a Special Master (the official charged with interpreting the Collective Bargaining Agreement) to not allow the NFL to collect over $4 billion from television networks if there is a labor lockout in the 2011 season.

We posted a number of end-of-the-year posts offering suggestions on looking at your insurance costs and to review any changes in the year.

A great article posted at NJ.com covers specific ways to trim premium costs. While it is focused on more personal insurance rather than business insurance it is still worth reviewing.

I am always a proud Ohioan when one from my native state does well. So congratulations are in order to Congressman John Boehner from Ohio’s 8th on his ascension to House Speaker.

But, the bit of grandstanding coming up first on the agenda for the new Congress, namely considering a one-page bill entitled: “To repeal the job-killing health care law and health care-related provisions in the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010,” is a distraction from any honest discussion of health insurance reform. There is a need to act fast because more and more Americans are becoming beneficiaries of specific provisions within the reform and it will be harder for the Republicans to pull-off a “complete repeal.” Why? Because Americans like the results of the law.

Reports over the weekend in the New York Times and elsewhere have the management of Bank of America “bracing” for an “embarrassing” disclosure of high-level management documents by Wikileaks.

Wikileaks claims it has data from a bank executive’s hard drive. Bank of America suspects Wikileaks is referring to it. Since the claims by Wikileaks, a team of Bank of America officers have been reviewing all possible instances of a leak at the bank. I have read more than a few articles where the alleged hard drive data may have come from a third-party charged with either investigating Bank of America or embroiled in litigation with Bank of America.
