This got me thinking about all of the small business owners with small seasonal fleets: landscapers, tourist rental, contractors, and others. The start of the warm weather is a good time to review commercial auto and fleet insurance for your business.
First, make sure your policy reflects the vehicles and equipment the business owns. If a purchase was made over the winter, it is easy to forget to include the new vehicle on the business policy.
Review safety with your fleet employees and equipment operators. American Family Insurance has a very well written pamphlet listing many ways a business can save on commercial auto and fleet insurance. It is worth reviewing. The fact is, the best way to save on premiums is to have no claims, no accidents, and good maintenance.
Look for discounts. Many insurers offer substantial savings to businesses that operate larger fleets. Typically, these discounts will range from 35% to 50% for fleets larger than five vehicles. Many insurers offer premium discounts when other business coverage is placed through the insurer. The discounts are there and need to be asked about.
